2011 IIHF U.S. Men’s World Championship News

The U.S. National Team will begin competition at the 2011 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Slovakia, on April 30th verse Austria and will have an exhibition game on the 27th against Austria as a tune-up as well. The Scott Gordon coached team looks like it may have a difficult time scoring goals, but if they play a smart team game and get contributions from all, then they should be competitive. You can look over the U.S. Team’s roster here and the schedule for the tournament can be found here.  Earlier today (4/26/11), Kevin Allen of the USA TODAY noted that Cam Fowler of the Anaheim Ducks, Derek Stepan & Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers have been added to the U.S. roster.

Additional team notes provided by USA Hockey, 15 of the 22 players have U.S. national team experience and 7 of the 22 players on the roster are alumni of USA Hockey’s NTDP (National Team Development Program). Those 7 players are Mike Brown, Cam Fowler, Mike Komisarek, Al Montoya, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jack Skille and Mark Stuart.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Versus will televise all Team USA games at the 2011 World Championship. A final broadcast schedule should be available soon.
