The 2011 U.S. National Under-18 Team is perfect through its first three games at the 2011 IIHF World Men’s U18 Championship in Germany. The latest U.S. victory came in a 4-3 win over a talented and unbeaten Russian team. The U.S. carried a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period only to see Russia respond and tie the game up with less than 5 minutes to go in the game. With less than half a minute to go, the California born Rocco Grimaldi won an offensive zone draw and worked the puck back to Reid Boucher, who made no mistake and wired a wrist shot past Russian goaltender Andrei Vasilevski for the eventual game winner with 21 seconds to go.
With wins over Switzerland (2-1), Slovakia (8-1) and now Russia, Team USA seems to be gearing up at a key time of this tournament. The U.S. Team will wrap up preliminary round games as they face the host nation Germany on Tuesday, April 19th.
